GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 101  12 April 1951

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL  - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :

FIRST LIEUTENANT CYRUS I. GIBBS, 01178162, Infantry, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 8 November 1950, near Yonghung, Korea, a determined enemy attacked the platoon of Company "F" which he was leading. Heedless of his own safety, he exposed himself constantly to encourage his men and they successfully withstood the enemy, in spite of ferocious charges, until dwindling ammunition forced them to fall back. After receiving a partial resuppply of ammunition, Lieutenant GIBBS formed a new line and counterattacked securing the area previously held by his platoon. Had it not been for his skillful and fearless leadership, the enemy would have had clear access to the battalion's rear installations. Lieutenant GIBBS' initiative and courage reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of Texas.
