AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :

FIRST LIEUTENANT NAPOLEON L. DONATO, 01896555, Infantry, Company "A", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 12 April 1951, in an engagement wih the enemy near Perae, Korea, Lieutenant DONATO, seeing that the unit on his left had been pinned down by heavy enemy fire, voluntarily left his position and while subjected to intense hostile automatic weapons and small arms fire crawled up a small hill to act as forward observer in order to direct the fire of his mortar section. Upon reaching the crest of the hill, Lieutenant DONATO killed two enemy riflemen who attempted to stop him from reaching his objective. Established in this advantageous position, he directed accurate mortar fire on the enemy positions, completely neutralizing their fire. Lieutenant DONATO'S heroic and daring action reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the Republic of the Philippines.
