GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 83 30 March 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:
Second Lieutenant JAIME A. COLLAZO COLLAZO, 01685800, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 31 January 1951 Company "B", 65th Infantry, had the mission of capturing Hill 449 in Korea. Upon nearing the objective the company received intense automatic weapons, small arms, and mortar fire from the well-entrenched enemy. Lieutenant COLLAZO'S platoon was given the mission of making a frontal attack and, in so doing, he was forced to lead his platoon across an open rice field covered by enemy fire. Remaining exposed throughout the crossing, he sucessfully directed his men in moving into the assault position without casualty. Then Lieutenant COLLAZO led his men in attacking and clearing the way thus enabling the other units of Company "B" to advance and assault hill 449. The couragous outstanding leadership displayed by Lieutenant COLLAZO reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
