GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 258  6 July 1951
 

    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :

SECOND LIEUTENANT JUAN ALICEA, 0960817, Infantry, Company "H", 65th Infantry 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 26 April 1951, while defending the high ground in the vicinity of Ilbisong-ni, Korea, Company "H", 65th Infantry was attacked by a numerically superior enemy force. Lieutenant ALICEA, leader of the mortar platoon, immediately and efficiently brought his unit into action as he moved from mortar to mortar and directed the fire, many times at ranges as close as two hundred yards. He continously exposed hinself to enemy fire as he carried ammunition to his men and assisted in moving the casualties to the rear. As a result of his courageous actions, the enemy attack became disorganized and was repulsed. The heroism, initiative, and professional skill displayed by Lieutenant Alicea reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military srvice from Puerto Rico.
