GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 143  15 May 1951

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL  - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted man :

CAPTAIN ANTHONY P. KRUMPACH, 01296044, Infantry, Company "L", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 21 February 1951, in the vicinity of Seoul, Korea, Captain KRUMPACH was observing the action of the 3d platoon of Company "L", 65th Infantry, which had been assigned the mission of gathering vitally needed river crossing data in an area dominated by the enemy firmly entrenched on the north bank of the Han River. Early in the action the platoon was brought under withering fire, the platoon leader was wounded, and the platoon was becoming rapidly disorganized. Captain KRUMPACH left the comparative safety of his vantage point and, with complete disregard for his own safety, advanced through enemy fire to personally effect the reorganization of the platoon. He remained under fire encouraging and directing his men until the mission was accomplished. Captain KRUMPACH'S outstanding leadership, courage, and aggressiveness reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of Maryland.
