AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
CORPORAL ANGEL M. COLON, ER30428095, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 27 April 1951, near Uijongbu, Korea, Company "B" was surrounged by a large enemy force and subjected to intense hostile small arms, automatic weapons, and mortar fire. When the unit was ordered to withdraw, it became necessary to drive a wedge through the enemy encirclement. Learning that a friendly infantryman had been seriously wounded during the fierce engagement, Private COLON unhesitatingly vounteered to remain behind and help in the evacuation operation. Private COLON, assisted by three other volunteers, carried the wounded man on a litter approximately 800 yards over exposed terrain through the gap in the encirclement to a position of safety, where medical aid was administered. Private COLON'S selfless heroism reflects great credit upon himself and is in keeping with the high traditions of the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
