Corporal (then Private First Class) FERDINAND H. ROMMEL, US51135757, Infantry, Company "F", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 10 June 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, Company "F" attacked the enemy held Hill "412". Corporal ROMMEL, a radioman, accompanied the first assault platoon in its attack on the unfriendly positions. Despite the intense artillery, automatic weapons and small arms fire, he mainained excellent radio communications with the other elements of the company. When his platoon was in urgent need of assistance, he succeeded in contacting the support element, requesting their immediate assistance. His efficient relaying of fire commands from the commanding officer brought about maximum support from the artillery batteries and tanks. In the final stages of the battle, he assisted in the evacuation of a wounded comrade while under constant enemy fire. Corporal ROMMEL'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from New Jersey.
