GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 334  13 Aug 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Corporal (then Private First Class) GEORGE RETA, US54076438, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 14 June and during the early morning hours of 15 June 1953, Company "E" made a raid on enemy outpost Hill "412" in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea. When the order was given to commence the attack, Corporal RETA, an assistant squad leader, charged to within ten yards of the enemy positions, inflicting numerous casualties on them. Repeatedly exposing himself to intense enemy artillery, mortar, small arms and automatic weapons fire, he moved among his men, offering them encouragement and urging them on to the attack. His courageous actions and clear, concise directions inspired the men of his squad to organize and fight aggressively during the entire battle. As the fire fight progressed, heavy casualties were inflicted on the enemy forces. Corporal RETA'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Texas.
