AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :

CORPORAL JUAN F. GONZALEZ, RA10403172, Infantry, Company "G", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 19 February 1951, near Myongil-li, Korea, Company "G" assaulted and successfully secured Hill 88 just south of the Han River. Shortly after the objective was taken, heavy enemy mortar fire began falling on friendly positions. Despite the intensity of the mortar barrage, Corporal GONZALEZ controlled his squad so well that no positions were deserted and, under his direction, the members of the squad threw hand grenades, denying the enemy all approaches for a possible counterattack. Corporal GONZALEZ'S inspiring leadership and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
