In the attack, many friendly casualties were sustained and Corporal HARRIS immediately began to remove the wounded to sheltered positions. Courageously disregarding the defenders fire, he repeatedly moved across the shell-torn terrain, treating the casualties and assisting them to safety, until himself wounded by the enemy fire. Refusing treatment, he continued his vital work. Later, Corporal HARRIS bravely returned unassisted to the main line of resistance, although seriously weakened by his wounds. Corporal HARRIS' outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Alabama.
