HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION

GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 481  16 November 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following enlisted man:

Master Sergeant RANDAL E. HYDE, ER18332663, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the afternoon of 17 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, Company "B" commenced a raid on enemy held Hill "433". Nearing the objective, Sergeant HYDE'S platoon was subjected to heavy enemy machine gun fire and sustained several casualties. Although wounded in this concentration, Sergeant HYDE aggressively reorganized his unit and led them to the slope to advantageous fighting positions. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he directed the fire of his men against enemy automatic weapons emplacements a short distance away and offered words of encouragment until the order to return was received. His brave actions and sound judgment contributed materially to the acurate and effective completion of the mission. Sergeant HYDE'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Missouri.
