Major CARSE volunteered to lead the defense against the attack which required him to move frequently from unit to unit in the face of heavy enemy fire. By his inspiring leadership, superior military knowledge, and aggressivness, Major CARSE successfully cooridinated the fires of friendly units, exposing himself on numerous occasions to intense enemy small arms, grenades, and automatic weapons. This act of daring heroism undoubtedly materially assisted in the successful repulsion of the numerically superior attacking enemy force and the saving of many lives of his fellow soldiers. The actions of Major CARSE reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of California.
