AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL -- BY direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal (First Bronze Oak-Leaf Cluster) with Letter "V" for heroic achievement in connection ith military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private First Class ALBERT L. KITTLESON, RA19440982, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 16 May 1953, Outpost "Harry", after being subjected to an intense hostile artillery and mortar barrage, was attacked by a numerically superior hostile force in the vicinity of Songnae-dong, Korea. At the height of the assault, telephone lines connecting the outpost with Company "E" on the main line of resistance were severed by enemy artillery fire. Private KITTLESON, a member of the communications section, immediately volunteered to leave the comparative safety of his bunker to repair the lines. Braving intese artillery, mortar, and small arms fire, he skillfully made the necessary repairs, resulting in the restoration of vital wire communications between Outpost "Harry" and Company "E". Private KITTLESON'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Washington.
