GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 339 15 Aug 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men:

Private First Class JIMMIE ORPHRY, RA54016031, Infantry, Company "G", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 13 June and during the early morning hours of 14 June 1953, Company "G" had the mission of raiding enemy held positions in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea. The assault platoon, of which Private ORPHRY was an automatic rifleman, cleared the left side of Hill "412" and had advanced along the reverse slope for seventy-five yards when it was momentarily halted by a heavy concentration of enemy mortar and small arms fire. Private ORPHRY, exposing himself to the enemy fire, laid down effective automatic rifle fire on the enemy as they attempted to reorganize and counterattack. When the order to return to friendly lines was received, Private ORPHRY immediately volunteered to provide a delaying action so that casualties could be evacuated. He again exposed himself to the enemy mortar, grenade and small arms fire to cover the retrograde movement. Private ORPHRY'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Oklahoma.
