GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 525  20 December 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL  - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted man:

Private First Class (then Private) JOHN J. MC CREEVAN, US51187909, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the morning and afternoon of 17 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, Company "B" raided enemy-held Hill "433". Advancing with his company up the shell torn slope, Private MC CREEVAN repeatedly exposed himself to the enemy fire to more effectively fire upon the defenders. In the firefight, many United Nations personnel were wounded and rendered unable to reach sheltered positions. Observing this, Private MC CREVAN courageously commenced to remove the casualties from the contested terrain. Although struck by the intense enemy fire, he refused medical aid and bravely continued to treat and evacuate the wounded raiders. Through Private MC CREVAN'S brave actions and disregard for his personal safety, much suffering was alleviated and several lives were saved. Private MC CREEVAN'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Massachusetts.
