GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 103  13 April 1951
 

    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL  - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS JOSE MENDOZA, RA10402096, Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 11 December 1950, near Majon-dong, Korea, Private MENDOZA volunteered to go seveen miles in front of his unit's positions, to assist in the evacuation of wounded. Upon reaching the spot where the wounded were located, Private MENDOZA, though under constant threat of enemy attack, calmly and efficiently went about transferring the wounded from disabled vehicles to his litter jeep, and then returned to the medical detachment. Private MENDOZA'S actions actions resulted in the evacuation of six wounded comrades. Private MENDOZA'S selfless devotion to duty reflects great credit on himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
