GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 199  17 June 1951
 

    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS JOSE MORALES ROMAN, RA10406417, Infantry, Company "F", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 31 March 1951, near Choksong-myon, Korea, during an attack by his platoon on enemy positions on Hill 398, Private MORALES ROMAN, on his own initiative and without instructions, provided an effective support fire by firing his automatic rifle from an exposed position. His voluntary action destroyed an enemy mortar emplacement , allowing his platoon to move forward. When his unit was pinned down by enemy machine gun fire from the crest of the hill, he unhesitatingly joined the leading man and assaulted the enemy positions. Private MORALES'S aggressiveness and heroism reflect great credit upon himseld and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
