HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION

GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 428  1 October 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL  - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private BOBBY G. DAVENPORT, US53137795, Infantry, Company "G", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 22 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, Company "G" was subjected to a heavy enemy artillery and mortar concentration which severed vital communications lines between the command post and the 4th platoon. Private DAVENPORT, a wireman, voluntarily moved into the terrain under fire and assisted in the repair of the lines. With disregard for his personal safety, he repeatedly exposed himself to the exploding rounds to maintain the essential contact between the units. His rapid and dependable work was directly responsible for the continued efficient operation of the company during the bombardment. Private DAVENPORT'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Tennessee.
