GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 243 10 July 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - (POSTHUMOUS) By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded posthumously to the following named enlisted man:

Private KENNETH E. CRAWFORD, RA15454624, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 9 June 1953, a friendly combat patrol attacked Hill "412" in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea. After a few minutes of the intense fire fight, several friendly soldiers lay serously wounded within a short distance of the enemy trenches. Private CRAWFORD immediately went to their aid, exposing himself to intense hostile automatic weapons, small arms and hand grenade fire to reach them. He returned the casualties to a position of comparative safety where they could be removed to the main line of resistance. In the successful retrograde movement following the action, he aided in the evacuation of the wounded. Private CRAWFORD'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Kentucky.
