Private JESSE W. FRIER - Circa 1953

HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION

GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 485 - 18 NOVEMBER 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL. -- By direction of the President under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944, (Section II, WD Bulletin 3, 1944) and pursuant to authority contained in Army Regulations 600-45, and Department of the Army Message W89043, the Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an armed enemy is awarded to the following  enlisted men:

Private JESSE W. FRIER, RA14474962, Infantry, Company "G", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the night of 22 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, the main line of resistance positions of Company "G" were subjected to intense concentrations of enemy artillery and mortar fire which severed the vital wire communications between the command post and the 4th platoon. Aware of the dangers resulting from inadequate communications, Private FRIER voluntarily left his sheltered position and moved onto the terrain under fire in search of the damaged sections. Despite the increased intensity and accuracy of the bombardment, he courageously continued across the rugged, shell-torn slope and succeded in repairing the lines. His brave actions in restoring the communications were instrumental in maintaining the close coordination of the unit during the action. Private FRIER'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Florida.
