HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 109 20 April 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
SERGEANT FIRST CLASS LUIS RODRIGUEZ, RA6674755, Company "D", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 14 February 1951, near Noha-dong, Korea, Sergeant RODRIGUEZ was a forward observer for a mortar platoon that was supporting a lead squad from Company "C", 65th Infantry. When this unit was fired upon by the enemy, Sergeant RODRIGUEZ attempted to make contact with his platoon, but was unable to do so because of communication trouble. He contacted a Heavy Mortar Company and brought the enemy under very heavy and accurate mortar fire. In spite of being in an exposed position and under continuous enemy small arms fire, he called for one mission after another over a period of four hours, inflicting heavy casualties upon the enemy and assisting Company "C" in completing its mission. Sergeant RODRIGUEZ' courage and aggressiveness reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
