AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL (POSTHUMOUS) - By direction of thePresident, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded posthumously to the following named enlisted men:

Sergeant PETE BURBAGE JR., RA14402499, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 24 May 1953, a patrol from Company "K" was holding a position in enemy held territory in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea. The position was subjected to an attack by a reinforced hostile platoon employing small arms and grenade fire. The intense enemy fire mortally wounded the friendly patrol leader and several men. Sergeant BURBAGE assumed command of the unit and with exceptional leadership, courage and complete disregard for his personal safety exposed himself to the enemy fire to establish control and better direct the defensive fire of his men. After establishing the effectiveness of the perimeter, Sergeant BUBAGE charged at an enemy emplacement that was bringing heavy fire on the patrol. He was mortally wounded in his attempt to destroy the position. Sergeant BURBAGE'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from South Carolina.
