SERGEANT (then CORPORAL) ANTONIO SANTA, RA10402590, Infantry, Headquarter and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 26 April 1951, near Ilbiang-ni, Korea, when the 2d Battalion, 65th Infantry was attacked by an estimated enemy force of two regiments, the command post was surrounded by the hostile force and brought under heavy small arms, automatic weapons, and mortar fire. Sergeant SANTA unhesitatingly exposed himself as he ran to a jeep to obtain a machine gun which was mounted on the immoble vehicle. Assisted by two comrades, he removed the weapon, ran to a nearby position, and aided in firing the gun which resulted in the halting of the advancing enemy. The heroic initiative displayed by Sergeant SANTA reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service. Rntered the military service from Puerto Rico.
