GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 511 -4 December 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Sergeant CLOVIS W. YOUNG, RA17253944, Infantry, Company "C", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the afternoon of 16 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kunhwa, Korea, Sergeant YOUNG was a member of a patrol on a mission forward of the main line of resistance. Nearing the objective, the group was subjected to intense enemy artillery and mortar fire and sustained several casualties. Sergeant YOUNG immediately began moving about the terrain under fire to treat the wounded patrol members. As the bombardment was intensified, the unit commenced to return to friendly lines. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Sergeant YOUNG bravely went ahead of the patrol, selected a route and courageously assisted in evacuating the casualties from the impact area. He was instrumental in the successful return of the group to safety with a minimum of casualties. Sergeant YOUNG'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Missouri.
