AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:

SECOND LIEUTENANT GILBERTO GRAFALS, 01685763, Infantry, Company "H", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 23 April 1951, near Chinjon-ni, Korea, while in a holding position, elements of the 2d Battalion were attacked by a large enemy force. Lieutenant GRAFALS, commander of a machine gun section, exposed himself to the intense hostile fire in order to better direct the fire of the weapons in his section. Constantly encouraging his men and the troops in the rifle company, he caused such accurate fire to be delivered that the enemy was pinned down and suffered many casualties. The heroic and courageous actions displayed by Lieutenant GRAFALS reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
