HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION

GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 1 - 1 January 1952

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

CAPTAIN MANUEL F. SIVERIO, 0462238, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 15 August 1951, Company "E" was assigned the mission of screening the left flank of another company, near Hoesan-ni, Korea. Captain SIVERIO, commander of "E" Company, upon learning that the other company had made contact with the enemy, skillfully deployed the Second and Third Platoons, flanking the enemy. He then directed a surprise counterattack which relieved the pressure on the hard-pressed friendly company and forced the enemy to retreat with heavy casualties. Still exposing himself under the continued fire, he promptly attended to evacuating the wounded and to recovering valuable equipment left in the abandoned area. The heroism, initiative, and skillful leadership of Captain SIVERIO reflect high credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of Indiana.
