HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION

GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 176 - 5 June 1951

CORPORAL HILARIO TORRES, RA10401965, Infantry, Company "D", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 26 April 1951, near Ckygyo, Korea, when Company "D" was subjected to a fierce attack by a numerically superior enemy force, the first platoon was forced to withdraw. Corporal TORRES, with no regard for his own personal safety and despite hostile automatic weapons and grenade fire, voluntarily remained with the machine gunner and assisted him in giving covering fire to the withdrawing troops. Constantly exposing himself, he fired his weapon and threw grenades into the attacker's ranks, enabling his comrades to reach a place of safety. Corporal TORRES' heroic actions and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
