GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 354 -3 December 1952

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private First Class EFRAIN M. RODRIGUEZ, NG21191678, Infantry, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 14 July 1952, while checking a friendly communications line on a hill in the vicinity of Sangok, Korea, Private RODRIGUEZ was informed by a fellow soldier that his Battalion Commander lay seriously wounded in an exposed position being subjected to an intense enemy mortar and artillery barrage. Realizing the need for immediate action, he quickly spiced into the communication line and instructed men at an aid station to send an ambulance to the scene of the critically wounded officer. He then volunteered to aid a comrade in evacuating the Battalion Commander and fearlessly crossed the shell-torn area, located the wounded officer, and with utter disregard for his personal safety, exposed himself to the fierce hostile fire as he assisted in the successful evacuation. Private RODRIGUES'S outstanding heroism and selfless actions were instrumental in saving the life of his commanding officer and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Puerto Rico.
