HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION

GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 184 - 11 June 1951

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS EFRAIN SIERRA RIVERA, RA10407007, Infantry, Heavy Mortar Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 26 April 1951, near Yongam-ni, Korea, Private SIERRA RIVERA was on duty in the command post at the time the enemy launched an attack against the 2d Battalion. When it became known that the command post was in danger, he alerted the men in the vicinity enabling them to move to safety and then returned to his post to continue relaying information by telephone to his superiors. Although the enemy had thrown two grenades into the house he was occupying and he had been ordered to leave his position, Private SIERRA RIVERA remained until the house was hit by enemy mortar shells and set afire. The heroism and devotion to duty displayed by Private SIERRA RIVERA reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
