GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 350 - 30 November 1952

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private First Class MAXIMINO E. PAOLI, US50110295, Infantry, Company "C", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 19 July 1952, Company "C" was assigned the mission of attacking a strategically important enemy occupied hill near Yu-hyon, Korea. As the leading elements of the assault group were advancing upon their objective they were suddenly subjected to intense enemy small arms and mortar fire. Private PAOLI, serving as a forward scout of his platoon, immediately began resisting the enemy offensive and when a hostile soldier lunged at him, he single handedly disposed of the foe. Although wounded while attempting to aid an injured comrade he continued to assist in assaulting the hostile force. During the battle he came upon his seriously wounded platoon sergeant, and completely ignoring his own wounds he carried him to a position of safety. Returning to the shell torn area he was wounded a second time while rendering further aid to the friendly casualties. When the order was given to withdraw he refused evacuation and insisted upon remaining behind to provide covering fire for the friendly unit. Private PAOLI'S heroic and selfless actions were instrumental in saving the lives of some of his fellow soldiers and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Puerto Rico.
