GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 135 - 20 May 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Sergeant First Class JUAN TORRES DIAZ, US50107466, Infantry, Company "G", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 29 September 1952, elements of Company "G", of which Sergeant TORRES DIAZ was platoon sergeant, were assigned the mission of defending Outpost "Tessie", in the vicinity of Koyandae, Korea. Sergeant TORRES DIAZ was checking his platoon sector when the position was subjected to intense fire followed by an assault of hostile forces. Upon observing a dangerous gap on his left flank, he seized an automatic rifle and led a squad into the gap, firing continuously to cover the movement. As a result of his inspirational leadership, the squad closed the vulnerable breach and drove the enemy back down the hill, inflicting numerous casualties upon them. Sergeant TORRES DIAZ' outstanding heroism, initiative and untiring devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Puerto Rico
