GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 345 - 25 November 1952

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Sergeant First Class LUIS M. ACEVEDO, US50106932, Infantry, Company "C", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 19 July 1952, Company "C" was assigned the mission of assaulting an enemy position near Yu-hyon, Korea. As the forward elements of the assault group neared their objective, they wee suddenly subjected to an intense hail of enemy small arms and mortar fire. Sergent ACEVEDO fearlessly exposed himself to the withering fire as he led his squad toward the enemy positions, and as he approached the trenches he was wounded by an exploding grenade. Despite his painful wounds, Sergeant ACEVEDO continuing in the assault, leaped into an enemy position and after engaging in hand to hand combat, succeeded in taking a prisoner. Only after the prisoner was turned over to the proper authorities, did he accept treatment for his wounds. The outstanding heroism and tireless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant ACEVEDO reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Puerto Rico.
