GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 292  28 July 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men:

First Lieutenant AARON RYAN, 01924770, Medical Service Corps, Medical Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 11 June 1953, in the vicinity of Kumwa, Korea, Company "E" occupying a sector of the 1st Battalion's front, was subjected to intense artillery and mortar fire prior to a hostile company size attack. As the battle progressed, casualties occurred in the fighting that took place in friendly trenches. As platoon leader in the attached Medical Company, Lieutenant RYAN courageously organized the handling of patients and the processing of the steady flow of wounded that were arriving at the aid station. Moving among the wounded, he administered the vitally needed medical care and comforted them with his encouraging words. He worked through out the night while under continual hostile fire and restricted by limited field medical facitities and black out conditions. His immediate and successful evacuation measures contributed immeasurably in saving the lives of wounded comrades. Lieutenant RYAN'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Illinois.
