GENERAL ORDERS # 248 - 4 July 1951

    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL. -- By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, February 1944 (section II, WD Bulletin 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in Army Regulation 600-45, and Department of the Army Message W89043, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men :

    SECOND LIEUTENANT ROQUE SIERRA CRUZ, O1685787, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 27 April 1951, Lieutenant SIERRA CRUZ'S platoon was attacked by a reinforced enemy battalion while occupying a blocking position near Hongbok, Korea. Lieutenant SIERRA CRUZ, completely disregarding his own safety as he moved among the men of his platoon directing their fire and encouraging them, successfully contained the enemy for over an hour until his unit, outflanked and overrun from the rear, was ordered to withdraw. The outstanding leadership and heroism displayed by Lieutenant SIERRA CRUZ reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
