AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :

CAPTAIN CALVIN E. GLIDEWELL, 028418, Infantry, Company "L", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 29 April 1951, as Company "L" was occupying a defensive position near Kalmae-ri, Korea, it was suddenly attacked by a large enemy force. Captain GLIDEWELL, immediately organizing and coordinating the defenses, directed the placing of accurate artillery and mortar fire upon the enemy. Although the entire company front was saturated with enemy fire, heedless of his personal safety, he moved through the area supervising and checking the positions, and comforting and encouraging the men.He so inspired his men that they repulsed the numerically superior hostile force time after time while inflicting tremendously heavy losses on the enemy. Captain GLIDEWELL'S exemplary heroism, professional skill, and outstanding leadership were a major factor in the decisive defeat of the hostile force and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of Mississippi.
