GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 316  26 July 1951
 

    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men :

CORPORAL (then PRIVATE FIRST CLASS) JESUS M. RIVERA, RA30421009, Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 23 April 1951, near Onsu-Dong, Korea, Company "E" was assigned the mission of capturing Hill 265, which was defended by a well-entrenched enemy force. During a fierce firefight, five friendly infantrymen were severely wounded. Fearlessly braving the hail of fire blanketing the area, Corporal RIVERA, a medical aidman attached to Company "E", raced to the assistance of his stricken comrades and succeeded in evacuating them to safety. Corporal RIVERA'S heroism and exemplary devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the high traditions of the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
