GENERAL ORDERS # 226 - 4 JULY 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL  -- BY direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal (First Bronze Oak-Leaf Cluster) with Letter "V" for heroic achievement in connection ith military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men:

Master Sergeant FRANK SNYDER, RA12267018, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 24 May 1953, a friendly ambush patrol from Company "K" became engaged in an intense fire fight with the enemy, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea. Sergeant SNYDER was assistant patrol leader of the support group that went out to render assistance to the friendly elements. Upon arriving at the scene of action, he immediately took command of the existing perimeter. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he exposed himself to the devastating hostile fire as he moved about checking the members of the perimeter. He competently organized and directed the evacuation of the wounded during the fight. As the final friendly elements attempted to return to friendly lines, he provided covering fire which enabled one of his companions to neutralize an enemy sniper who was hiding in a bush. Sergeant SNYDER'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.Entered the Federal Service from Maryland.
