GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 317  27 July 1951
 

    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS DIAZ B. CHARBENIER, ER30420992, Infantry, Company "B" 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 4 June 1951, near Kekhul-Bong, Korea, after Private CHARBENIER'S platoon unsuccessfully attempted to seize a series of enemy strong-points which were holding up the advance of the battalion, he, commanding in the absence of his squad leader, was ordered to reorganize his squad and make a flanking attack. Although his initial assault was repelled and he was wounded in the face, Private CHARBENIER continued the attack which forced the enemy to mass their fire power in his direction and enabled the remainder of the platoon to seize the objective. The heroic and aggressive leadership displayed by private CHARBENIER reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.

REVOCATION OF GENERAL ORDERS. - So much of General Orders 317, this Headquarters, 1951, as pertains to Private First Class DIAZ B. CHARBENIER, ER30420992, Infantry is revoked.
