GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 345 17 Aug 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private First Class FOTU SAVE, RA10106509, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 6 July 1953, in the vicinity of Honu-Chon, Korea, Company "E" had the mission of attacking enemy held Hill "250". The assault units moved over the initial portion of the objective without incident. Upon arriving at the second sector, the unit received fire from the enemy. When calling for ammunition, Private SAVE, an assistant machine gunner, observed that the ammunition bearer had been wounded. Without regard for his personal safety, he quickly ran down the incline to carry back ammunition for the machine gun. Upon returning to his position, he saw that the gunner had been wounded. Immediately, he took the gun and moved up the hill to an exposed position from which he could cover the advance more effectively. Soon after, a grenade fragment destroyed his weapon. Unhesitatingly, he secured a carbine and joined the assault team, remaining with them until the objective was secure from the enemy. Private SAVE'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Hawaii.
