GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 175  4 June 1951
 

    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS MIGUEL R. GOMEZ, ER30429175, Infantry, Company "I", 65th Infantry, 3d infantry Division, United States Army. On 25 March 1951, near Uijongbu, Korea, while Company "I" was attacking enemy-held positions on Hill 221, Private GOMEZ'S squad was pinned down by enemy small arms and automatioc weapons fire. With no regard for his own safety and despite intense hostile fire, Private GOMEZ repeatedly exposed himself in order to throw hand grenades at firmly entrenched enemy positions. His actions so inspired his comrades that they assaulted the enemy and sucessfully secured the objective. The heroism displayed by Private GOMEZ reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
