GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 381  7 Sept 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men:

Private First Class RAYMON REYES, US55307281, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 14 June 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, Company "E" launched an assault on enemy held Hill "412". Private REYES was a member of the 3d platoon of the asault element. As the force approached the objective, his platoon became the object of intense machine gun fire and suffered heavy casualties. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he volunteered to guard a group of seriously wounded friendly soldiers lying in an exposed area until they could be evacuated. Later, he personally removed several wounded men to a comparatively safe position. In the final stage of the battle, Private REYES volunteered to act as rear guard for his comrades in the return to friendly lines and furnished highly effective covering fire for the movement. He was seriously wounded in this final action. Private REYES' outstanding heroism and untiring devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Kansas.
