GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 466  29 October 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL  - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named oficer and enlisted men:

Private First Class (then Private) ROYCE J. LEGE, US54095516, Armor, Tank Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the afternoon of 10 June 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, United Nations forces commenced a raid on enemy held Hill "412". Private LEGE was loader-driver of an M-16 gun carrier supporting the raiders from "Eagles Nest", a high position overlooking the area of attack. He diligently loaded the vehicle's machine guns throughout the battle with complete disregard for his personal safety. Although the enemy directed heavy concentrations of artillery and mortar fire in the immediate area, he remained at his post and continued to supply ammunition to the rapidly firing weapon, thereby contributing materially to the effective support his section provided the assault element. Private LEGE'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Texas.
