AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private EUGENE A. CARTER, US53146813, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 6 July 1953, Company "K" commenced to attack enemy held Hill 250, in the vicinity of Honu-Chon, Korea. As the assault platoon advanced up the hill, Private CARTER, assistant squad leader of the first squad, moved from one man to another, keeping them in an effective skirmish line and directing their fire. Nearing the third and highest crest of the hill, Private CARTER observed an enemy trench containing numerous automatic weapon emplacements.----------------------------------he immediately began to rush the entrenched enemy, alternately firing his weapon and hurling grenades upon them. His accurate fire destroyed two of the positions. When ordered to return to safety, Private CARTER remained on the hill to help in the evacuation of the wounded. He succeeded in removing several men from exposed areas and helped carry a wounded Republic of Korea soldier back to the aid station. Private CARTER'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Virginia.
