AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :

SERGEANT FIRST CLASS GERMAN MARRERO VELEZ, RA42211681, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 6 December 1950, near Majon-Dong, Korea, the first platoon of Company "K" was attacked and the center of the line penetrated by the enemy causing one half of the platoon to be cut off. Sergeant MARRERO VELEZ, disregarding his personal safety and heedless of enemy small arms fire and grenades, voluntarily accompanied the platoon leader in charging through the enemy force to the cut off portion of the platoon. Finding two wounded men, he assisted them to safety and then aided the platoon leader in leading a counter-attack which resulted in the resteration of the platoon position. The heroic actions and courage displayed by Sergeant MARRERO VELEZ reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
