AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :

SERGEANT (then CORPORAL) BENITO RIVERA, RA10403190, Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 31 March 1951, near Cheksong-myon, Korea, when Company "F", 65th Infantry, attacked well-defended enemy positions on Hill 398, Sergeant RIVER'S platoon was subjected to heavy automatic weapons and grenade fire and numerous friendly casualties were sustained. With complete disregard for his own safety and despite intense hostile fire, Sergeant RIVERA advanced to within fifty feet of the enemy positions and evacuated the wounded to a place of safety where he administered first aid. Sergeant RIVERA'S courage and devotion to duty saved the lives of many of his comrades and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
