As the force departed the assembly area, it was subjected to heavy enemy artillery fire which seriously wounded several men. Sergeant BONECK, a medical aidman attached to an adjacent company, courageously ran into the impact area to assist the casualties. Disregarding his personal safety, he repeatedly exposed himself to the intense barrage in administering vitally needed medical aid to the wounded.
