    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL  - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named oficers and enlisted men:

Sergeant (then Private) REUBEN J. LE BOWE, RA16242357, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the morning of 17 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, Company "B" assaulted enemy held Hill ". In the attack, Sergeant LE BOWE repeatedly exposed himself to the enemy bombardment to more effectively fire upon the entrenched defenders. As the men immediately began to remove them to safety. Sergeant LE BOWE courageously remained on the shell-torn slope to cover the evacuation preccedings. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he delivered accurate covering fire until all his wounded comrades had been carried from the scene of action. Rejoining his unit, he assisted in the evacuation until wounded by enemy grenade fragments. Through his brave actions, he was instrumental in the rapid removal and treatment of the casualtiesl Sergeant LE BOWE'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Michigan.
