AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men :

SERGEANT SANTOS F. TORRES, RA30422433, Infantry, Company "B', 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 27 April 1951, near Uijongbu, Korea, Company "B" was subjected to a furious attack by a fanatical enemy force. When word was received that an infantryman in the forward outpost had been seriously wounded, Sergeant TORRES, accompanied by his platoon leader voluntarily crawled forward through hostile machine gun, small arms, and mortar fire to the stricken soldier's side. Assisted by the platoon leader, he carried his unconscious comrade to a safe position where first aid was successfully administered. Sergeant TORRES' heroic actions reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the honored traditions of the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
