AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

SECOND LIEUTENANT JOSE ROBLES, JR., 0970430, Infantry, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 25 April 1951, near Tonchon, Korea, an enemy force strongly attacked the 1st Battalion from the rear, having infiltrated friendly lines under the cover of a dense fog, Lieutenant ROBLES personally organized a defense around the battalion command post, utilizing all available personnel in the vicinity and evacuated the transportation and other equipment which was coming under enemy fire. In the ensuing action, Lieutenant ROBLES, heedless of his own safety, moved from position to position, in the intense enemy fire to rally his troops. When the battalion command group was ordered to withdraw he volunteered to remain behind and cover the withdrawal. Lieutenant ROBLES' heroism contributed greatly to his unit's successful defense and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
