GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 365 - 17 December 1952

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Captain ENRIQUE A. VICENS, 0990730, Medical Corps, Medical Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. In the early morning hours of 20 July 1952, Company "C", was assigned the mission of assaulting enemy fortifications near Sangok-Tong, Korea. Determined resistance of the foe made it necessary for the friendly company to withdraw. Captain VICENS upon learning that the friendly unit while withdrawing was being subjected to intense hostile automatic weapons, mortar and artillery fire and was in urgent need of aid men, quickly organized litter teams equipped with medical supplies, and fearlessly accompanied them to the critical area. After arriving at the position, he disregarded his personal safety as he moved through the devastating enemy fire, shouting words of encouragement and rendering aid to the wounded. He remained in the shell-torn area supervising the evacuation of the casualties and only when he was certain that the last of the wounded were evacuated, did he withdraw with the friendly unit. Captain VICENS outstanding courage and selfless actions were instrumental in saving the lives of many of his fellow soldiers and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Puerto Rico.
